There is a rising trend in vaping and other recreational uses of cannabis since the Government of Canada announced that it would be legal in 2018. Many experts expect this trend to continue to rise when people feel safe to come out as users.
This legislation poses a challenge to employers that need to be understood and addressed. Yet when the foremost authority on people matters, the Human Resources Professionals Association, surveyed employers last June, only 11% of the companies they spoke with had a policy in place to address medical marijuana. And a whopping 45.9% did not believe their existing policy adequately covered any potential workplace issues that might arise with the legalization of recreational marijuana.
